The man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene in the hotel in Mount Pleasant on Saturday morning.
A statement from the force confirmed his death is being treated as unexpected and investigations are now underway.
A spokesman said: “We can confirm that emergency services are currently in Liverpool city centre following the discovery of a man’s body this morning, Saturday, August 1.
“At around 11.15am we received a report that the body of a man in his 40s was found inside a hotel room on Mount Pleasant.
“He was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics, and his death is being treated as unexpected.
“His next of kin have been informed and a postmortem will be carried out to establish his cause of death.
“Enquiries at the scene are ongoing.”
