Heavy rain on the cards this week too; IMD issues yellow alert for Mumbai, neighbouring districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued yet another yellow alert (be aware) for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar for Monday and Tuesday even after the Southwest Monsoon has officially withdrawn from the city.
According to senior scientists from IMD, pockets of Mumbai are slated to witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next two days, thereby deferring the withdrawal of the monsoon in the city to the end of the week.
Responding to questions about the fresh alert, meteorologists said that the city would see thunderstorm activity along with moderate showers of up to 65 mm. Some pockets, meanwhile, can experience heavier downpours – beyond 65 mm – over Monday and Tuesday, they added.
