Tornado reported in Christian Valley as storm packs ‘devastating’ punch – Kelowna News

The storm lasted mere minutes but the cleanup could take days or even weeks.

The system that swept into Kelowna on Wednesday afternoon packing strong winds, lightning and heavy rain caused widespread destruction further east, in the community of Beaverdell.

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary said a suspected tornado touched down in the nearby Christian Valley.

The destruction is clear as you drive along Highway 33, and it has impacted almost every part of Beaverdell.

“This giant tree came down missing our house by about a foot, a foot and a half,” said Kenna Graff, who lives along the West Kettle River.

“We started some of the cleanup, but that’s just one of the giant trees that we’ve lost dozens and dozens around our home and our property.”

The storm caused some very anxious moments for the woman who runs the ice cream parlour right across the street from Beaverdell Elementary School.
