Cheetah dies following short illness one month after arriving at Edinburgh Zoo

Cleo the cheetah, who arrived at Edinburgh Zoo a month ago, has died following a short illness.The five-year-old arrived at the zoo from Fota Wildlife Park in Ireland on August 1, and had previously been described as “settling in” to her new home in the capital.Her arrival marked the first time in 24 years that the zoo had been home to a cheetah, which is classified as vulnerable in the wild.However on Wednesday, the zoo announced Cleo had died during the night following an illness, believed to be related to liver failure.A spokesperson said that she left an “amazing impression” and will be “sadly missed”.A statement read: “We are sad to say that Cleo the cheetah died overnight following a short illness, despite the best efforts of our veterinary team and specialist animal keepers.“In the short time Cleo was here she made an amazing impression on all of the staff, vets and visitors who met her“We are still trying to establish what the cause of death is but we…
