Kalvin Phillips: Sheffield United & Man City mapping second loan
Sheffield United are in advanced talks with City over another loan deal for Kalvin Phillips
The move would represent a second temporary spell at Bramall Lane for the England international
Phillips has struggled for regular first-team football since joining City from Leeds United in 2022
Sheffield United are in advanced talks with Manchester City over a fresh loan deal for midfielder Kalvin Phillips, as per a new report.
Phillips has endured a difficult period since his £45 million move to the Etihad Stadium from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, making just a handful of appearances for the club across three seasons as injuries and a lack of form limited his involvement considerably under Pep Guardiola.
The 30-year-old spent the second half of the recent season at Bramall Lane and despite spending much of his time in Sheffield on the sidelines, Phillips is understood to have impressed enough for the Championship side to explore the possibility of bringing him back to south Yorkshire for another campaign.
Report: Advanced talks underway between clubs
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Sheffield United are in advanced talks with Manchester City over securing another loan deal for Phillips ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The report suggests discussions between the two clubs have progressed to an advanced stage, with a second temporary arrangement considered the most straightforward outcome for all parties given Phillips’s lack of a clear pathway to regular first-team football at the Etihad Stadium.
City director of football Hugo Viana is understood to be focused on a significant rebuild of the squad around incoming manager Enzo Maresca – and a further loan exit for Phillips would free up both wages and a squad place as the club navigates one of its most active transfer windows in recent memory.
What next for Phillips at Manchester City?
Phillips’s City career has never recovered the momentum that made him one of England’s most sought-after midfielders during his time at Leeds United – and his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain heading into the final year of his contract.
A second loan spell at Sheffield United would offer the 30-year-old consistent Championship football and the opportunity to rebuild his confidence and sharpness ahead of what is likely to be a defining period for his career – whether that ultimately concludes with a permanent departure from City or an unlikely return to contention under Maresca.
Whether the advanced talks reported translate into a formal agreement in the coming days remains to be seen – but the direction of travel for both club and player, who is under contract at the Etihad Stadium till the summer of 2028 – appears clear.

Leeds United fixtures set for TV reshuffle with five to six weeks’ notice and late changes likely
Leeds United can expect multiple 2026/27 Premier League dates to move for TV. According to yorkshireevenpost.co.uk, batches of changes are due soon, though late switches remain likely despite a five to six weeks’ notice aim.Daniel Farke’s side start at Nottingham Forest at 3pm on Saturday, August 22 after missing opening-weekend TV picks. The only other fixed round is the final day at Crystal Palace on Sunday, May 30.Fixtures are listed as weekend or midweek, with five Wednesday dates for Leeds. Most others default to 3pm but are routinely moved for TV. Leeds played only 10 of last season’s 38 league games at 3pm.Thursday European ties usually push domestic games to Sunday or Monday, and four clubs will be in the Europa or Conference League. Progress can trigger later changes for others too, as when Leeds’ March trip to Brentford went to 8pm on a Saturday, then was confirmed on 9 February after 12.30pm or 5.30pm were mooted.TV selections for August and September are expected in the week commencing 13 July, with monthly batches following through spring. Gameweek 37 will be set after the FA Cup semi-finals, and last season some windows slipped, including September picks on 23 July and festive changes two weeks late. The league aims to announce around six weeks before fixtures prior to January, and five weeks afterwards. Short-notice moves are more likely if English sides reach European knockouts. Supporters are urged to factor this into travel plans.

Harry Wilson to sign for Wales United – sorry Leeds United

Leeds have agreed a deal to sign Wales midfielder Harry Wilson as a free agent – making it five Welsh internationals at Elland Road.
Wilson was out of contract at Fulham and Leeds have won the race for his signature having come close to signing him on deadline day last summer when the move collapsed at the 11th hour.
The 29-year-old, who scored 10 goals and made seven assists for the Cottagers last season, will undergo a medical at Leeds this week before they announce their first summer signing.
Wilson, who scored 22 goals in 125 Premier League appearances in total for Fulham, will join up with fellow Wales internationals Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Karl Darlow and Dan James at Elland Road.
After progressing through Liverpool’s academy, Wilson had loan spells at a host of clubs including Derby, Bournemouth, Cardiff and Fulham before joining the latter in a permanent deal in 2021.
Leeds fans have been purring over the signing of playmaker Wilson, who will be a key addition to Daniel Farke’s squad for the forthcoming Premier League season.
One Leeds fan was quick off the mark and has produced a video showcasing the Welshman’s skills, tricks and goals.
Whisper it quietly but every Welsh fan should now throw their support behind Leeds/Wales United for the sake of the national side. When Leeds’ Welsh players next turn up to international camp, it looks certain that there will be a new manager greeting them with Craig Bellamy close to agreeing terms to become the new boss at Burnley.
Bellamy – who is halfway through a four-year contract – was initially prepared to commit himself to Wales and their Euro 2028 campaign amid speculation linking him to Celtic and Burnley.
But Burnley have pushed hard for their former coach to succeed Scott Parker following their relegation from the Premier League, and the Press Association now understands Bellamy is in contract talks with the Clarets.
Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney told S4C: “You have to be open to the fact that people can express themselves in different ways. But Craig has been special to Welsh football.
“Craig has been fantastic for us in terms of the football we play and the energy we have.
“But of course, we have to be aware of the fact that we are in a huge football industry and that people have different objectives.
“In my opinion, Craig will go on to be a world-class coach.”

Bellamy was appointed Wales manager in July 2024 after spending two years as Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Burnley.
He began in impressive fashion with a nine-game unbeaten run – five wins and four draws – and won promotion to Nations League A.
But Wales failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup after losing a play-off semi-final shoot-out to Bosnia and Herzegovina in March.
Bellamy was blamed by many Wales fans for making poor substitutions after taking the lead in that Cardiff clash, and has not won any of his last four games.
Steve Cooper, the former Nottingham Forest, Leicester and Swansea boss, and ex-Wolves head coach Rob Edwards are among the early contenders to succeed Bellamy should he depart.
And the way things are shaping up in Yorkshire, we’d not be surprised if Leeds boss Daniel Farke is in the running for a job share arrangment!Support our Nation today

Leeds United chief makes exciting World Cup transfer admission
Leeds United look as though they will be incredibly ambitious in the summer transfer window.
A bid over £20million has already been put in for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles from the Whites. Unfortunately, it was rejected, but the Whites remain in talks over a potential deal.
Like last summer, Leeds have also identified some ambitious free agent signings that would radically improve Daniel Farke’s squad. Both Julian Brandt and Harry Wilson are said to be the free agents that United are targeting.
But the exciting news does not stop there. Leeds United managing director Robbie Evans also recently confirmed some more exciting transfer news.
Robbie Evans confirms Leeds are evaluating World Cup targets
In a recent report by Graham Smyth in the Yorkshire Evening Post, he confirmed that last week at the Premier League fixtures launch event at Elland Road, Evans addressed supporters regarding potential summer signings.
Evans outlined United’s transfer strategy, with the window effectively being split into two parts. The first part would involve trying to get deals done swiftly for players not at the World Cup.
This could perhaps hint that potential deals for either Wilson or Brandt could soon be completed.
However, Evans also confirmed that there would be another “intense period” following the World Cup regarding recruitment.
The American confirmed that Leeds do, in fact, hold interest in some players who are participating in the World Cup. Understandably, these are the potential deals that we would be looking at completing following the tournament.
To round things off, Evans also confirmed the Whites’ primary objective for next season, and that is to further consolidate themselves as a Premier League outfit.
Leeds United need to be careful when signing players from the World Cup
Whilst it is exciting that we are monitoring players at the World Cup. It is something we need to be careful of.
It feels like at least one player, who nobody has ever heard of prior to the tournament, always earns a massive move based on their form at the World Cup.
These moves are typically high-risk. Whilst they can work out, they are not something we can afford to take a chance on.
So hopefully, any of the World Cup targets the 49ers have identified were done so before the tournament and not impulsively based on their performances at it.
Any players we are keeping an eye on at the World Cup could also see their valuations skyrocket if they have an impressive tournament. The 49ers will need to have plenty of alternatives lined up if this is the case.
The last thing they want is to be dragged into bidding wars. Potentially paying over the odds for their World Cup targets.
For the most part, the 49ers’ recruitment has been spot on since they took custodianship of Leeds. So until that changes, I will continue to put my faith in them to get this transfer window spot on once again.

Leeds United plot move for Noah Okafor’s international teammate: Report
Leeds United have been relatively busy since the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.
The first piece of business the Whites attended to was ensuring their captain, Ethan Ampadu, signed a long-term contract extension. United also remain in negotiations with the likes of Karl Darlow and Sam Byram over potential new deals at the club.
In terms of new arrivals, reports suggest that Leeds have launched a bid in excess of £20million to sign Southampton midfielder Shea Charles.
And now, Leeds have also found themselves linked with another defender, who is Noah Okafor’s international teammate.
Leeds United interested in Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi
Going into the transfer window, it was expected by most that Leeds would sign another left-footed centre-back this summer.
If Pascal Struijk did not come to terms on a contract and was sold as a result, we may even have to sign two left-sided centre-backs.
However, according to a report from Bild, United are also in the market for a right-sided centre back.
The report claims that the Whites are looking to potentially sign Nico Elvedi, who plays at Daniel Farke’s former club, Borussia Monchengladbach.
Elvedi is also Okafor’s international teammate. Whilst the Leeds winger has struggled to get game time at this World Cup, Elvedi has played every minute of Switzerland’s campaign so far in the heart of their defence.
Elvedi is about to enter the last year of his deal at Monchengladbach. As a result, the 29-year-old defender leaving the Bundesliga this summer seems plausible.
Leeds would be willing to pay around £7.4million to secure Elvedi’s services.
A deal for Nico Elvedi does not make sense on paper
Jaka Bijol, Joe Rodon, Sebastiaan Bornauw and even James Justin all proved they could play centre-back for us adequately last season.
That is why it is hard to imagine us signing another right-footed centre back. Especially when it is clear that we need reinforcements on the left.
This is, unless we sell Bornauw, let’s say, this summer, if the Belgian wanted to find a new club where he could play more often.
If that’s the case, then Elvedi would make a great deal of sense. For just over £7million, we could do a lot worse than to sign a defender with 11 Bundesliga campaigns under his belt and who is just shy of 70 caps for his country.
Whilst Elvedi would appear to be an upgrade on Bornauw, if we have no intentions to sell him, then signing Elvedi would mean we have an unnecessary backlog of right-footed centre-halves.
We have far more pressing issues in our squad than signing another right-footed defender. So unless Bornauw leaves this summer, I’d be putting a deal for Elvedi on the back burner.

Harry Wilson interest expected to be reignited as Leeds eye Welsh edge
Leeds United are expected to reignite interest in Harry Wilson following his Fulham exit, with the club’s Welsh core seen as a potential advantage.Sky Sports reports that Leeds are working on a potential deal but expect competition, with the 29-year-old likely to have higher-placed, better-funded Premier League options.Leeds saw a deadline-day move fall short last year, when Wilson had 12 months left on his Fulham deal. Craven Cottage chiefs chose not to cash in and the winger, who delivered 10 goals and seven assists last season, has now departed.Leeds can point to a strong contingent of his international teammates, with Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Daniel James central to Daniel Farke’s squad. “It’s always a factor having the other Welsh players there,” the former Arsenal and Leicester City striker told BestBesttingSites. “You speak to your teammates when you’re away on international duty.”During the June internationals against Ghana and Romania, Leeds captain Ampadu, fresh from signing a four-year deal, said he had been selling the club to Wales colleagues and called an Elland Road switch an easy sell.“To go from Fulham to Leeds, I mean on paper it’s not a step up,” he added. “I think he might have other offers because he’s a very good player, Harry Wilson, who can do spectacular things. But the fact his international teammates are there doesn’t hurt at all.”
