The Abbey Theatre has announced that the 2024 T. S. Eliot Lecture will take place on 15 December 2024. Organised in collaboration with the T. S. Eliot Estate, this will be the ninth lecture in the series, which celebrates the lasting impact of T. S. Eliot on modern literature.
This year’s event will feature actor Ralph Fiennes, who will deliver a reading of Eliot’s Four Quartets. The reading coincides with the 80th anniversary of the poem’s first publication as a single volume in 1944. Following the reading, Fiennes will engage in a discussion with actress Ingrid Craigie, exploring his relationship with the poem, the dynamics of performing poetry, and the interpretative challenges faced by performers.
The evening will be introduced by Catherine Heaney.
