Thousands raised in honour of student who died at the Sportspark

Date:

Second-year medical student Mohammed Farraj was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Since his passing, tributes have poured in with bunches of flowers laid outside the Sportspark.

The UEA Islamic Society have been fundraising through the LaunchGood platform in his honour.

They have raised almost £8,000 so far to fund water wells in drought-hit communities in Pakistan.

A statement posted to the society’s Instagram account on Sunday paid tribute to him.

It said: “Mohammed was ambitious, hard-working and smart, but above all, he was good, kind and beloved by all.

“He spent three years among us at the university, where he lived, worked and studied.

“He was intimately known within our community. He was our friend, our brother and we loved him.

“Since the news broke much has happened, but as a community we have come together in unity.
