‘Underrated’ Avalanche Forward Surprises in New Role

Date:

The Colorado Avalanche are not going to have to order more sticks for Ross Colton — at least not just yet. After breaking one in morning skate, he was the first to get the Avs on the board in the 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins. However, he is not correlating the two so it will not become a ritual. Had they won, though, that may have been a different story.

“I don’t think so maybe, if we won, maybe then I’d have to break it over somebody’s head … but that was just unfortunate,” Colton said laughing at the question.

The Avalanche has suffered an excess of injuries including top line forward Jonathan Drouin. He was injured in the first game of the season and the timeline for his return is unknown. Colton has been filling his spot but he is a different type of player than Drouin. His style and grit are more comparable to Gabriel Landeskog or Valeri Nichushkin.
