Kelly Stafford spent her birthday weekend with friends in the Alpharetta area outside Atlanta where she grew up connected to the Georgia football program as a former cheerleader. The gathering came together while Matthew Stafford remained in Los Angeles for the Rams’ opening week of training camp. Matthew, the reigning NFL MVP, is entering his 18th season and did not attend.

She shared clips from the night on her Instagram Story showing the gathering with her longtime friend group and the posts quickly drew criticism.
The celebration also included family time with Stafford posting footage of her four daughters but that did little to quiet the backlash. It followed a stretch in which she stepped back from hosting duties on her podcast.
Stafford had hosted The Morning After since 2021, often discussing football, marriage and raising four daughters alongside her husband’s NFL schedule. She later confirmed the show would not return in its original form, citing the balance between her career and family as the deciding factor.

While Kelly celebrated in Georgia, the Rams’ 2026 outlook centers on keeping Stafford under center beyond this season. The 38-year-old enters the year fresh off an MVP campaign and a trip to the NFC Championship Game.
Her video drew swift and pointed reactions online. While some viewers found Kelly’s birthday celebration lighthearted, others pushed back hard on the timing and the public nature of the post, given that Matthew had just reported to Rams training camp days earlier.
One fan wrote, “Instant divorce if my wife does this and posts about it.”
