CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A new after-school program is coming to Champaign-Urbana for this upcoming school year.Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation is offering adapted skill building activities at a new location, which means all kids will be able to enjoy the fun. They can enjoy games, sports, arts, crafts, cooking and more.
$375K coming to Champaign, Vermilion Co. libraries Organizers said the demand was there for a new site from parents who rely on after-school care.And, that they hope the program will help to close the gap for accessible care in Champaign.“It’s our goal always to make sure that people have what they need,” said CU special Recreation Manager, Christina Mott. “You know, sometimes we talk a lot about like, taking the program to them. So we realize that like, so many families in Urbana needed the same programming that we have at this facility here in Champaign. So, it’s really important to make sure that the access and the ability to get to the program.”The program is located at Phillips Recreation Center in Urbana. And, they said their fundraising efforts keep costs low for families. The program starts on Aug. 24 and runs throughout the school year, including, during holiday breaks.
