Michael Carrick has a significant war chest at his disposal to strengthen the Manchester United squad after his side’s qualification for the Champions League.
Much has been written about INEOS’s desire to transform United’s midfield with at least two new signings, including a marquee name.
However, the club’s recruitment team are also keen not to miss out on potential market opportunities to strengthen different areas of the squad.

Manchester United eyeing Sam Johnstone
According to a report from journalist Alan Nixon, Manchester United are looking at a deal to sign goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Wolverhampton Wanderers. 
Wolves are set for a rebuild of their own following relegation to the Championship.
Johnstone, 33, is likely to be one of the many departures at Molineux, having made just 12 league appearances last season. He joined the Midlands club from Crystal Palace in a £10 million switch in 2024.

United are reportedly showing interest in bringing back Johnstone to Old Trafford. The 6’4″ shot-stopper graduated from United’s academy before permanently leaving the club in 2018.
It remains unclear how much Wolves would demand for Johnstone. However, given he has just two years left on his contract, the Red Devils should be able to land him for a reasonable fee. 

Manchester United to tweak goalkeeping department
Senne Lammens remains United’s undisputed number one. Meanwhile, the Mancunians have also handed veteran Tom Heaton a one-year extension to remain as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper.
As such, Johnstone is certainly being eyed as the back-up to Lammens. However, currently that role is occupied by Altay Bayindir.
Bayindir is attracting serious interest from clubs in Turkey. Once his exit is finalised, United may be able to make a move for Johnstone.

Andre Onana has also returned to United upon the expiration of his loan at Trabzonspor. However, the Cameroonian has no future at Carrington, with everyone at the club keen to offload him.

Both Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing for a demanding 2026/27 Championship campaign, albeit from very different starting points in terms of their expectations. It’s fair to say that Watford have been heading in the wrong direction for several years now despite possessing a number of exciting players, particularly in attacking areas. The likes of Othmane Maamma, Imran Louza, Nestory Irankunda, Kwadwo Baah, and Giorgi Chakvetadze all provide reasons for optimism. However, the club’s persistent managerial churn and inability to build continuity have prevented them from making meaningful progress up the table and 15th, 14th, and 16th have been their last three league finishes. As a result, they have drifted further away from promotion contention rather than moving closer to a return to the Premier League. That leaves prospective new boss Alessio Dionisi with a sizeable task on his hands. The Italian will do well to reverse Watford’s fortunes in what appears to be a particularly competitive Championship season, with several clubs harbouring realistic promotion ambitions.

Among the clubs with promotion ambitions is Wolves, who are looking to bounce back at the first time of asking following relegation from the Premier League under Rob Edwards. They will need additions this summer to ensure they can do that. Also, given both clubs are likely to target some similar profiles of young and high-upside players, it would not be a surprise to see Watford and Wolves competing for some of the same transfer targets this summer. One of those has since been outlined, with Watford and Wolves both said to be keeping a close eye on Fluminense striker John Kennedy. Reports from Brazil indicate the two English clubs have made enquiries about a possible move in the summer transfer window.

Fluminense are said to be open to a sale, but only if an offer arrives above €10 million (£8.5 million) for the 24-year-old. However, both Udinese and Cagliari have joined the Championship duo in contacting Fluminense, according to journalist Joao Van Boysen. He is in the final year of his contract but could be in demand after 35 appearances for the Brazilian giants where he scored 14 goals and notched a further two assists, becoming one of their most effective attacking players. Kennedy is a man for the big occasion after he scored the extra-time winner for Fluminense in the 2023 Copa Libertadores final, which was a goal that secured the biggest trophy in the club’s recent history.

Kennedy’s height, or lack of it, would not necessarily be a deal-breaker in the modern Championship, but it does raise questions about how each club would utilise him. At around 5’8″, Kennedy might offer mobility and intensity rather than aerial dominance.

For Wolves, the fit is slightly less obvious because they already possess a smaller, instinctive goalscorer in Adam Armstrong. Unless Rob Edwards sees Kennedy as a wide forward or second striker, there is a risk of duplication rather than complementarity. Wolves may instead prioritise a centre-forward capable of occupying centre-backs and providing a focal point.

At Watford, the argument is stronger. Pairing Kennedy with towering striker Luca Kjerrumgaard could create a classic big-man/little-man partnership, with the Brazilian feeding off knockdowns and space created by his strike partner via second balls. The question is whether that is the most effective use of resources in 2026. Most successful sides now prioritise fluid front threes or with goals from off of the wings, rather than rigid strike pairings. While Kennedy and Kjerrumgaard could work, Watford may ultimately extract more value elsewhere for £8.5 million or thereabouts.

The Midsomer Murders stage adaptation will tour in 2027.
Based on Caroline Graham’s book and the hit ITV series, Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, the stage play is adapted by Guy Unsworth. It follows Inspector Barnaby and his trusty sidekick, Sergeant Troy, who investigate a murder after the well-loved Emily Simpson is found dead in the picturesque village of Badger’s Drift.
Produced by Nicholson Green Productions and Colin Ingram Ltd, Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift is directed by Unsworth, with design by David Woodhead, lighting design by Matt Haskins, music by Max Pappenheim, sound design by Ella Wahlström and casting by Ginny Schiller.
Daniel Casey, who created the role of Sergeant Troy in the ITV show from 1997 to 2008, played Inspector Tom Barnaby in the world premiere stage show and will reprise the role for the second tour. Further casting is to be revealed.
In 2027, the tour will play at the Alexandra, Birmingham from 23 to 24 April, before visiting Edinburgh Festival Theatre (28 April to 1 May), Milton Keynes Theatre (5 to 8 May), Orchard Theatre in Dartford (12 to 15 May), Hull New Theatre (19 to 22 May), Theatre Severn (25 to 29 May), Belfast Grand Opera House (1 to 5 June), Aylesbury Waterside Theatre (23 to 26 June), York Grand Opera House (30 June to 3 July), Liverpool Playhouse (6 to 10 July), Wolverhampton Grand Theatre (14 to 17 July), Bradford Alhambra Theatre (21 to 24 July), and Newcastle Theatre Royal (27 to 31 July). More dates are to be announced.
The 2026 leg of the tour is currently playing in Dublin, with the final date at Theatre Royal Bath from 9 to 13 June.
The stage show is produced by Nicholson Green Productions and Colin Ingram Ltd.

An exceptional 20,368 supporters have renewed their season tickets for the 2026/27 season.
Supporters who have renewed can relocate their seat between 9am on Monday 8th June and 5pm Wednesday 10th June, with more information on how to do that below.
Any unrenewed season tickets will be made available initially to supporters on the season ticket waiting list, with more information on that process below.

Those supporters who have renewed their season tickets will have the opportunity to relocate their seat between 9am on Monday 8th June and 5pm Wednesday 10th June.
This process can only be completed by calling the ticket office on 0371 222 1877. To assist supporters in gauging suitable availability for relocations an illustrative, real-time seat plan can be accessed here.
Please note, you must be logged in using an account with a renewed season ticket in order to access this seat plan.
Supporters are advised that availability in the Sir Jack Hayward and Stan Cullis Stands is limited and this also applies to central areas of the Steve Bull and Billy Wright Stands. Supporters wishing to relocate are advised to check the live plan for availability before calling to avoid disappointment.
Supporters are also asked to be patient when trying to contact the ticket office by telephone.
New season ticket sales
Any unrenewed season tickets will be made available initially to supporters on the season ticket waiting list, which includes all members from the 2025/26 season, based on their waiting list position.
Exclusive invites to purchase will be sent via email from Tuesday 9th June onwards, with sales commencing on Friday 12th June. Supporters will be advised of their position on the waiting list via email prior to Friday 5th June. A window for non-2025/26 members will follow, subject to availability.
Away season tickets
Information on renewals will be sent to existing away ticket holders via email in the coming weeks, ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Bournemouth have publicly stated that they will not let go of the Frenchman without a fight.However, retaining the France U21 international could prove difficult as interest grows. Arsenal have already been touted as suitors and now PSG have joined the race. Despite winning the UCL, PSG are looking to strengthen during the summer transfer window.Multiple targets have been cited, including Julian Alvarez, Yan Diomande, and Maghnes Akliouche. Kroupi is the latest option to emerge and the Frenchman, under contract with Bournemouth until 2030, has the ambition of playing for an elite European side in the short or medium term. Son Heung-min (Los Angeles FC), the captain of the national soccer team, flew, and strikers Cho Kyu-sung (Mit Willan) and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton) also helped. The South Korean national soccer team, ahead of the 2026 FIFA North-China World Cup finals, won a great victory by setting off a goal firecracker in an exhibition match against Trinidad and Tobago.
South Korea, led by head coach Hong Myung-bo, beat Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in the warm-up match at Brigham Young University Southfield in Provo, Utah on the 31st (Korea time). South Korea, which lost in both A matches held in March, was in the mood by winning the warm-up match ahead of the first group match of the North Korea-China World Cup finals on the 12th.
South Korea is holding a pre-training camp in Salt Lake City, the U.S., which is 1,460 meters above sea level, located on the highlands of Guadalajara, Mexico, where the first and second group games of the World Cup finals will be held. Against Trinidad and Tobago, Hong brought up a three-back defense and a 3-4-2-1 tactic to put Son Heung-min as one-top. On the day, Son Heung-min played 13 times instead of his usual number 7. In order to confuse the analysis of the power of the rival countries in Group A of the North-China U.S. World Cup, which includes South Korea, the national team gave a different number instead of the existing number.
South Korea, which showed a frustrating attack flow until the middle of the first half, changed its mood with the first goal from Son Heung-min’s toe in the 40th minute of the first half. Son Heung-min, who was rushing to the gate with a low pass from the right side of Kim Moon-hwan (Daejeon), opened the goal by scoring a right-footed shot.
Son Heung-min, who scored in the A-match for the first time in six months since November last year, scored a penalty three minutes later to complete the multi-goal (2 goals per game). Son Heung-min, who added two goals on the day, scored a total of 56 goals in the A match, which is close to the record of the most goals scored (58 goals) by South Korean players held by former coach Cha Bum-keun.
In the second half, the strikers, who were replaced, cheered up. Cho Kyu-sung received Lee Dong-kyung’s cross with his head in the 20th minute of the second half, and Hwang Hee-chan sealed the match with a penalty goal in the 30th minute of the second half. Cho Kyu-sung received Seol Young-woo’s pass in the 32nd minute of the second half and scored his second personal goal with a right-footed shot.
The national team showed off its firepower at a stadium located on the highlands on the day, raising expectations for the finals. In particular, the “water replenishment rest” situation, which was first introduced at this competition, was also well utilized. Water replenishment breaks provide players with water intake and physical recovery time after stopping the game for three minutes each after 22 minutes in the first and second half, excluding halftime. Coach Hong actively communicated with the players during the break during the first half and delivered the game strategy, and the national team, which raised the offensive tempo, finished the first half with two goals.
Coach Hong said after the game, “The operation went well in the form of the tactics we prepared. Son Heung-min and Cho Kyu-sung’s goals are very welcome to the national team,” he said. Son Heung-min, who recently washed away his goal drought, said, “This victory will help the players find confidence,” but emphasized his composure, saying, “I will prepare for the tournament without getting excited when I win and sinking when I lose.”
Although South Korea won a great victory in the game, midfielder Bae Joon-ho and defender Cho Yoo-min were replaced by injuries during the second half of the day, and the injury warning was issued ahead of the World Cup finals. South Korea will play its last warm-up match before the World Cup finals against El Salvador on the 4th.
