Police intervened after fighting broke out among supporters during Wolves’ 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Port Vale at Molineux.

Ugly scenes overshadowed Wolverhampton Wanderers’ comfortable 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Port Vale after fighting broke out among supporters inside Molineux.
Police officers were forced to intervene when a confrontation in the away section escalated, and several supporters appeared to exchange punches.
The incident reportedly began with a fight between two individuals before other people became involved, creating a larger disturbance in the stands.
Police move in as fight spreads
Footage from the stadium showed officers entering the area and attempting to separate those involved.
The situation gradually calmed as police brought the confrontation under control.
Port Vale later confirmed that the club was aware of the incident and had opened discussions with Wolves and the relevant authorities.
“We’re aware of an incident in the stands at last night’s game and will be working closely with Wolverhampton Wanderers and the relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding it.”
The club stressed that the matter would be treated seriously.
“We take matters of this nature seriously and will consider any appropriate action once the facts have been established.”
Wolves settle the match before half-time
On the pitch, Wolves enjoyed a much more straightforward evening and secured a convincing 3-0 victory.
The result also gave new manager Cesar Peixoto the perfect start to his tenure.
Adam Armstrong opened the scoring after only 14 minutes to put the hosts in control.
Andre doubled the advantage in the 34th minute before Fer Lopez added a third goal before half-time, effectively ending Port Vale’s hopes of producing an upset.
Despite the scoreline, Vale manager Jon Brady felt his team created opportunities and showed courage against opponents operating two divisions above them.
“We had three big chances and then they score after that and it hits you hard.”
Brady was nevertheless encouraged by elements of his team’s performance.
“But I wanted us to be brave and we went after them. I was really pleased with some of our play.”
The Port Vale coach also highlighted the difference in expectations between the two clubs.
“We’re playing against a team who are expected to go straight back into the Premiership. They’re two levels above us, and yet in the second half we created more chances than they did.”
Wolves progress in the Carabao Cup after a convincing first-half performance, while Port Vale will now turn their attention towards their League Two opener away at Oldham.
For both clubs, though, there will also be questions about what happened in the stands, with Port Vale promising to establish the facts before deciding whether further action is required.
